Comprehensive Cat & Dog Exams in Virginia Beach, VA

Dogs and cats age faster than we do, meaning their health can change more rapidly, too. At Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach, we put a strong emphasis on routine cat and dog exams. Regular visits to the vet help us more easily stay on top of your pet’s changing needs and adjust their care as needed to keep them healthier for longer.

Topics We’ll Cover at a Wellness Exam

No two exams are exactly alike because no two pets are the same! We’ll adjust our services to meet your pet’s specific needs, but there are some core topics we’ll cover at every exam.

Blood work

Blood work is invaluable in veterinary medicine. Cats and dogs can’t tell us exactly what’s wrong, and physical exams are not always enough to detect the problem. With blood work, we’re able to assess your pet’s internal health and discover problems that may not show any physical symptoms yet. Early detection is key to preserving your pet’s health and quality of life.

Parasite prevention

Fleas, ticks, and heartworms are not only a nuisance; they can affect your pet’s health, too. In our milder climate, these critters are a danger all year round. That’s why we recommend parasite prevention for the whole year. Plus, during your pet’s annual exam, we’ll run disease screening tests for heartworm disease, tick-borne illnesses, and intestinal parasites to ensure your pet steers clear of these dangerous pests.

After-Hours Care

In addition to providing medical care during our regular business hours, Dr. Silverstone also makes it a point to be there for you and your pet, no matter the day or time. As a client of ours, you'll receive his personal phone number to call him whenever you have concerns about your pet's health. And if they need non-critical urgent care, he'll meet you at the hospital.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations prevent your pet from contracting serious, sometimes fatal diseases. Your veterinarian will work closely with you to determine which vaccines your pet needs to stay healthy. Things we’ll consider include:

  • Your pet’s health and age
  • Their lifestyle
  • If and where they travel

Nutrition

Nutrition is one of the most important aspects of your pet’s ongoing care. The right diet can keep your pet at a healthy weight, give them the energy they need to stay active, and can even help manage chronic diseases like arthritis, dental disease, hyperthyroidism, and more. We’ll discuss nutrition at every exam to ensure your pet is getting the nutrients they need to be their best self.

Puppy & Kitten Packages

Our puppy and kitten packages are designed to cover all your pet’s essential needs during their first year of life for a low monthly fee. Puppies and kittens have a lot of needs including their vaccinations series, frequent check-ups, spay and neuter surgery, and more. With our puppy and kitten plans, plus our spay/neuter plan, you’ll give your pet the care they need for less. Here’s a glimpse of what they’ll cover:
