Andrew Silverstone

DVM, MS

Since 2003, I have been with Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach (previously Animal Care Clinic). My passion is to provide the highest standard of medical care for your pets. I see your pets as members of your family, and I am committed to delivering compassionate care. In addition to helping dogs and cats, I enjoy working with exotic pets (turtles, birds, iguanas, fish, snakes, ferrets, geckos, chameleons, just to name a few). During your pet’s examination, I work hard to get to know them and help you establish a vaccination and treatment plan, based on your pet’s individual needs. If your pet is sick, I will be there to go over your treatment options and offer the best treatment plan to make your pet feel better.

Before founding the Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach, I had the privilege of treating animals in many other settings. I am one of only a few veterinarians to receive a Cancer Research Training Award from the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, I was part of a team that studied and developed a cure for an inherited form of cancer in dogs. A similar cancer occurs in children and was always fatal until we developed this cure using bone marrow transplants.

I also have had the opportunity to work with marine mammals, including dolphins, manatees, sharks, and sting-rays, as well as sloths and toucans during my time as a Research Fellow with Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute.

Most recently, I completed a Master of Science degree from the University of Florida in Veterinary Forensic Sciences. I am also a Veteran of the United States Army Reserve, Veterinary Corps. While I was a veterinary student, I took the opportunity to take special training in treating cancer at the University of Wisconsin and North Carolina State University, as well as zoo animal medicine at the San Francisco Zoo.

Lisa

Lead Veterinary Assistant

Hi, my name is Lisa and I am originally from Sparks, Nevada. I have received my bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science in Reno, NV, then I moved to California to live with my husband who is in the Navy. I have received my certification as a Veterinary Assistant in Port Hueneme, CA. Due to my husband’s new orders,  we then moved to Virginia Beach, VA in February 2019 with my now 2 year old Shiba Inu named Shadow, who is a joy to have yet most stubborn dog that I would never trade. I have joined the Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach in May 2019 as a Veterinary Assistant and continue working here as we speak. I got accepted to attend the Tidewater Community College Veterinary Technology Program to become a Veterinary Technician.

There is never a dull day as I look forward to my work every day to come in to see the joy expression my clients and furry friends have as they enter and exit out clinic. It is always a satisfying feeling to know that our work is appreciated, that our clients have a great experience, and to have their trust in us to help their pets.

My passion for working in the veterinary field has been a dream of mine since I entered high school. I knew I wanted to work in a field to help others as best as I could and I’m an action person who is not afraid to get their hands dirty to get the job done. I have worked very hard to get to where I am now without stopping until I reach my ultimate goal as a Veterinary Technician, which is to work as long as I can in the field to help my clients and furry friends have the best of their life together for as long as possible.

Lead Client Relations

Hi! My name is Alyna and I work here at Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach. I was born in Clearwater, Florida and moved to a small town called Walton, New York when I was eight years old. After finishing high school I went to Elmira College and graduated with a Bachelors in Biology and Psychology. A couple months later I started working at an animal shelter near my hometown and fell in love with working with animals. Then I moved to Virginia Beach in May of 2020 (perfect timing, I know). Luckily, I just so happened to find Dr. Silverstone’s job posting and decided to apply. Now I’m working with a great group of people and meeting the most adorable pets!

Bella

Assistant

My name is Bella, and I am currently a vet tech student studying at Ashworth college. I have been working with Dr. Silverstone for 2 years. I want to be a vet tech because I want to help educate pet owners on the importance of vaccinations, medications, spaying & neutering their pets etc.

At the age of thirteen, I volunteered at the VBSPCA for 3 years. I graduated high school at the age of sixteen and received the Girl Scout Gold Award. After I graduated high school, I studied at Ashworth College and received a certificate in dog training. Then I went to Animal Behavior College to be a veterinary assistant. I did an internship at the Norfolk SPCA, and I started volunteering there for 2 years. When I received my certificate as a veterinary assistant, I went back to Ashworth to become a veterinary technician

I love my current job and being around animals. I dog sit, dog walk, and occasionally train animals.
