Andrew Silverstone, DVM, MS

Veterinarian

Since 2003, I have been with Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach (previously Animal Care Clinic). My passion is to provide the highest standard of medical care for your pets. I see your pets as members of your family, and I am committed to delivering compassionate care. In addition to helping dogs and cats, I enjoy working with exotic pets (turtles, birds, iguanas, fish, snakes, ferrets, geckos, chameleons, just to name a few). During your pet’s examination, I work hard to get to know them and help you establish a vaccination and treatment plan, based on your pet’s individual needs. If your pet is sick, I will be there to go over your treatment options and offer the best treatment plan to make your pet feel better.

Before founding the Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach, I had the privilege of treating animals in many other settings. I am one of only a few veterinarians to receive a Cancer Research Training Award from the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, I was part of a team that studied and developed a cure for an inherited form of cancer in dogs. A similar cancer occurs in children and was always fatal until we developed this cure using bone marrow transplants.

I also have had the opportunity to work with marine mammals, including dolphins, manatees, sharks, and sting-rays, as well as sloths and toucans during my time as a Research Fellow with Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute.

Most recently, I completed a Master of Science degree from the University of Florida in Veterinary Forensic Sciences. I am also a Veteran of the United States Army Reserve, Veterinary Corps. While I was a veterinary student, I took the opportunity to take special training in treating cancer at the University of Wisconsin and North Carolina State University, as well as zoo animal medicine at the San Francisco Zoo.

Alexandria Pahides, MS Veterinary Forensics

Practice Manager

Hello! My name is Alexandria and I am happy to be part of the team at the Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach. Originally from Philadelphia, PA I moved to Harrisonburg VA where I completed my Bachelor of Sciences at James Madison University, which included minors in Pre-Veterinary Sciences, Pre-Forensic Sciences, Women Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and African, African American, and African Diaspora studies. My leadership experience includes 4 years as an executive member of the Pre-Veterinary Society, with 2 years serving as the academic chair. Additionally, I have held positions of management at another clinic, restaurant and an executive member of a sports club at JMU.

In 2022, I completed my Masters of Veterinary Sciences in Veterinary Forensics at the University of Florida. I have been honored to work with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences on medical and forensic autopsies. This complements the degrees and specialization of Dr. Silverstone.

In addition to my formal education, I spend time attending CE events and other educational opportunities. I have worked with various animals throughout my life, but as for my clinical experience I have had 4 years working in veterinary emergency hospitals as well as large animals, exotic animals, and some wildlife. I make it my mission to bond with clients as well as guide them to make the best decisions for the mental, physical, and medical wellbeing of their pets. This field is a passion of mine, as I am working towards being admitted to a veterinary school in the near future.

Fun things about me include having four wonderful and crazy dogs, 15 reptiles, and 6 cat’s! I also longboard, read, and love being at the beach.

Never hesitate to ask me questions about training, behavior, or anything else animal related!

Since entering the veterinary field, my love and appreciation has constantly grown.

A few of my other interests include reading, writing, traveling, and riding horses. My goals moving forward are to expand my knowledge through conservation, zoological, and marine medicine. And ultimately work with sanctuaries in the conservation of species to help protect and preserve wildlife and their habitats.

Lisa, LVT

Veterinary Technician

Hi, my name is Lisa and I am originally from Sparks, Nevada and received my bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science in Reno, NV, then I moved to California to live with my husband who is in the Navy and received my certification as a Veterinary Assistant in Port Hueneme, CA. We moved to Virginia Beach, VA in February 2019 with my now 5 year old Shiba Inu named Shadow, who is a joy to have yet the most stubborn dog that I would never trade. I have joined the Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach in May 2019 as a Veterinary Assistant and now a License Veterinary Technician as of August 2023.

There is never a dull day as I look forward to my work every day to come in to see the joy expressed by my clients and furry friends as they enter and exit the clinic. It is always a satisfying feeling to know that our work is appreciated, that our clients have a great experience, and to have their trust in us to help their pets.

My passion for working in the veterinary field has been a dream of mine since I entered high school. I knew I wanted to work in a field to help others as best as I could and I’m an action person who is not afraid to get their hands dirty to get the job done. I have worked very hard to get to where I am now without stopping until I reach my ultimate goal as a Veterinary Technician, which is to work as long as I can in the field to help my clients and furry friends have the best of their life together for as long as possible

Bella, LVT Student

Veterinary Assistant

Hello my name is Bella and I have been working with Dr. Silverstone since 2020. My goal is to become a Veterinary Technician. I am currently finishing up my vet tech education at Ashworth College. I want to help educate pet owners on the importance of vaccinations, medications, spaying & neutering their pets etc. A passion of mine is dog mental enrichment and training. My own dog, Rebel and I have a tiktok to show off her tricks!
My previous experience in veterinary medicine began when I was thirteen. I volunteered at the VBSPCA for 3 years, then graduated high school at the age of sixteen and received the Girl Scout Gold Award. After I graduated, I studied at Ashworth College and received a certificate in dog training. Then I went on to the Animal Behavior College to become a veterinary assistant. Following this experience, I participated in an internship at the Norfolk SPCA where I stayed with them for two years. On completion of my certificate as a veterinary assistant, I went back to Ashworth to continue education as a veterinary technician.

Outside of the workplace I enjoy dog sitting and walking as well as helping others train their dogs. Rebel and I have begun to attend dog trick shows. Along with my love for dogs, I also love cats, exotics, and even have birds at home. Baking is another passion of mine, even dog treats!

Viviana

Viviana, LVT Student

Certified Veterinary Assistant, Technician training

Howdy! My name is Viviana, I go by Viv, and I am from Houston, TX. I have been in the veterinary field for 5 years now as I started my education as a junior in high school. I am currently attending San Juan College in order to obtain my associate of applied science degree in veterinary technology. As I started here at Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach in January 2023, I have had the chance to learn and grow so much and I cannot wait to keep it all going! I moved to Virginia to be with my husband as he is stationed here with the U.S Navy and we plan on making Virginia our home for a while!

At the age of 7 years old, I knew I wanted to be in the veterinary field and I have always been grateful for the opportunity I was given to complete my certification in veterinary assisting in high school. With this certification, I was able to work for clinics in Texas and captivate so much knowledge and skills which later advanced me into doing technician work.

I have enjoyed being in the veterinary field and see myself doing this for the rest of my life. I believe my passion to help all pets will keep making a difference as they deserve to be cared and loved for!

Fun Fact: I have a Maltese Shih Tzu Mix named Snoopy, Longhaired Dilute calico named Willow, and a new kitten named Pickle!
